In diesem weiten Sinne ist er synonym mit dem Konzept d. "Geschichtskultur". Er hebt aber stärker auf das Moment d. funktionalen Gebrauchs d. Vergangenheit für gegenwärtige Zwecke, für die Formierung einer historisch begründeten Identität ab. Geschichtskultur hebt stärker auf die kognitive Dimension d. Geschichtswissens ab.
